Call for professional training grant at IBBA-CNR
The following opportunity is highlighted:
"I am looking for a motivated person to work in my group on the project “PROtein interactome to sustain seed Storage Protein synthesis in the ER – PROSPER” PRIN-MUR.
The study concerns the molecular mechanisms underlying the synthesis and accumulation of seed storage proteins (SSPs). In particular, we are interested in the network of molecular helpers that take care and assist SSP synthesis, both under physiological and stress conditions, whose activity is closely related to the quality and quantity of protein in the mature seeds.
Folding and assembly of SSPs in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is controlled by interactions with ER-resident chaperones and enzymes in a polypeptide-specific manner. Environmental stresses could perturb SSP proteostasis, triggering a transcriptional/translational response called “Unfolded Protein Response – (UPR).
Biochemical, molecular biology and microscopy approaches will be used to identify SSP-specific molecular helpers. The most promising candidates will be functionally characterized using gene editing and/or gene-tagging techniques.
