  • American Indigenous Populations: Genomic analysis of indigenous populations of Central and South America and comparison with ancient DNA obtained from pre- and post-colonial archaeological remains, aimed at reconstructing the genetic and demographic history of the region, from the past to contemporary populations.

  • Populations of the Alpine Valleys: Genomic analysis of the populations of two Trentino Alpine valleys (Val Rendena and Valle di Ledro) and different areas of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, aimed at reconstructing their evolutionary history and the demographic processes that influenced their genetic variability, with particular attention to the role of geographic isolation in the formation of the current genetic pool.

  • Evolutionary history of the hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius): study of the evolution of the species and its possible subspecies through the analysis of modern genomes (coming from zoo, i.e. Parco Faunistico Le Cornelle and Zoom) and museum samples dating back to the last two centuries. Study of the demographic trend before and during the intensification of anthropic activities. Study of the phylogenetic and evolutionary relationships between the common hippopotamus and Choeropsis liberiensis, the other species in the Hippopotamidae family
