The research activity focuses on the genetic basis of biodiversity, which are studied with a combination of experimental and bioinformatic approaches both in model organisms and in non-model species. The use of population genetics methods allows us to study the effects that natural selection and demographic phenomena have on the evolution of natural populations. Molecular evolution analyzes also allow us to identify and characterize the genetic basis of adaptation and phenotypic traits of the species of interest. In particular, we use genomic approaches integrated with information on ecology and biology to understand the mechanisms underlying the evolution of invasive insects and of agricultural and health interest.
