Katarzyna Desrocques (Bruker) and Francesco Moneta (Bruker) present the role of PET, SPECT, and CT in the preclinical multimodality ecosystem.
In addition to an overview of nuclear imaging technologies, we also present application examples, illustrating how these imaging modalities can be used to address various preclinical research questions and how they can be integrated with each other within a multimodal workflow.
The seminar is an opportunity to discover the potential of advanced preclinical imaging and discuss potential applications in your research fields with experts.
The event represents a moment of high scientific value for the University, aimed at presenting an excellent educational path that combines advanced biological research, biophysics, and industrial applications.
The day will open with institutional greetings from Professor Cristina Campiglio (Deputy Vice Rector) and Professor Antonio Torroni (Director of the Department of Biology and Biotechnology "L. Spallanzani").
The guest of honor will be introduced by Professor Marco Biggiogera, who will present the Lectio Magistralis entitled "What the Eyes Don't See: The Story of a Piece of Glass and the Rainbow" given by Professor Alberto Diaspro, an internationally renowned figure in biophysics and nanoscopy.
Full Professor of Applied Physics at the University of Genoa and Research Director of Nanoscopy at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), a center of excellence for advanced technological research, his work is characterized by pioneering achievements: in 1999 he created the first Italian multiphoton microscope, followed in 2000 by the creation of a hybrid artificial "nanobiorobot."
In 2008, he also directed the design and construction of the first Italian infrastructure dedicated to nanoscopy at IIT. He was awarded the 2024 Enrico Fermi Prize and was awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (2024).
Afterwards, the official presentation of the Master's program will be held by the coordinator, Professor Maria Grazia Bottone.
Today it's World Cystic Fibrosis Day, here some good news: the Fondazione per la Ricerca sulla Fibrosi Cistica has announced its latest funded projects. A new study I’m led by Prof.ssa Degiacomi alongside colleagues Prof. Elena Petricci, Prof. Daria Bottai, and Prof. Giovanni Delogu will start. They'll be working on an innovative approach to target Mycobacterium abscessus infections, using antibodies as precision vehicles to deliver antibiotics directly into the infected cells.

From Friday, July 31st, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. to Saturday, August 1st, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the electricity supply will be discontinued for the replacement of the main electrical panel at Cascina Cravino. We remain available to assess any instruments that require to be powered continuously during the work.
The Campus Aquae canteen will be closed from Friday 24/7 (inclusive) with reopening on September 7th, similar to the canteens managed by EdiSU.

Please be advised that on WEDNESDAY 15 JULY 2026 from 6am to 9am the electricity supply will be interrupted due to urgent maintenance work on the electrical cabin of1) Reception Cabin of the Engineering Centre
ELECTRICITY will be suspended in the following buildings:
34_INGEGNERIA DIDATTICA , 29_INGEGNERIA , 35_SCIENZE DELLA TERRA, 36_GENETICA, 30_MATEMATICA e CENTRO DI CALCOLO, MECCANICA STRUTTURALE E IDRAULICA, POLO BORDEAUX (SEGRETERIE, BIBLIOTECA E AULE)During the power outage, a generator will provide electicity and the units connected to the preferential lines ("red sockets") will remain poweredDurante la sospensione dell'energia elettrica sarà in funzione il gruppo elettrogeno e le unità collegate con le linee preferenziali ("prese rosse") rimarranno alimentate, understood that there will be two brief interruptions when the generator is started and, at the end of maintenance operations, when the ordinary grid is restored. Therefore, it would be desirable to have at least one facility representative at the rearm to verify the correct functioning of the equipment (refrigerators, etc.) at the end of the operations.
